Christmas in London pt.1

January 7th, 2019

It’s currently 5:15 p.m. in London, 10:15 a.m. at home in Utah, and 1:45 p.m. in St. Johns which I am currently flying over.  I have just under 4 hours of this flight left before I have to catch a flight from Chicago to Denver and then Denver to SLC.

To put it simply, this has been one of the hardest days I’ve had in a long time, if not ever. So many poor strangers have been freaked out about why this random teenage girl keeps crying…on the train… and in the airport…and on the plane.

In case you didn’t know, I spent the last 3 weeks in London with my boyfriend and his family for Christmas. And today I had to leave him there and go home, which is over 4,000 miles away.

This morning I woke up at 6:45 a.m. for one last cuddle sesh before we had to get up. I said goodbye to his parents who were amazing to me the whole trip. I’m so grateful that we both have families who are extremely supportive of our situation.

These last 3 weeks have been some of the best of my life. The 4 months we spent apart were worth it within 10 seconds of seeing him. I want to write about everything we did (and I will) but I’m just making myself cry even more thinking about it right now. I pray these next few months fly by.

January 11, 2019

Update: It’s a few days later and I am currently back at school in St. George (unfortunately). The days are still really hard, but they’re getting easier. I really want to write about the trip while it’s still fresh in my mind BUT there’s a ton so I think I may do 3 separate posts, one for each week.

Update pt. 2: It’s now the end of January, and it is still getting easier although some days are really hard as they always will be, but I had such a blast and I want to make sure that I have record of it here!

  • Dec. 18th

After landing at Heathrow airport, I had to go through customs which I swear took about 5,000 years. I finally got to see him and may or may not have actually ran into his arms *cliche, I know* and I was honestly in shock. We headed back to his house after a few pigeon jokes and lots of hugs.  Nothing much happened other than I got to meet his sister and mom, and then later that night his dad came out to say hi while we were in the hot tub!

  • Dec. 19th

Wednesday morning we got up and got ready to go into London! We decided to walk around Embankment which is where we went the first time we met! We walked over a bridge, past Big Ben and Parliament and then down to Trafalgar Square and into Covent Garden. It was all decorated for Christmas and it was so so cute. We went into a little fancy shop for afternoon tea a.k.a hot chocolate and scones with clotted cream and jam (I’m in love). Later that night 2 of his friends came over and we played pool, and even though I’m horrid it was still really fun.

  • Dec. 20th

We stayed at home and watched Back to the Future, one of his favorite movies that I had never seen before (I know it’s basically a crime). The rest of the day we just hung out and had a chill day spending time together.

  • Dec. 21st

Earlier in the day we went to Sainsbury’s to pick up a few last minute gifts for his family and on the way home we picked up shakes and they were so good (even if I was freezing). Later that night we went to a pantomime of Beauty and the Beast with his whole family and I met his older brother and his wife. The show itself was really funny and I’m really glad I got to experience it! Especially since it included getting a picture of Ewan wearing a sparkly headand (I may have forced on him) and a Christmas sweater.

  • Dec. 22nd

Saturday we got up early to meet two other bloggers at waterloo station. After walking in circles for a good half an hour we accidentally found embankment. Just like a few days earlier we walked to Trafalgar square and Covent garden. After that we went to Leicester square, Oxford street, Regents street, and Soho which was all decked out with a Bohemian Rhapsody theme. There were huge neon signs of lyrics going down the streets, it was so cool. Eventually we had to say goodbye to them and headed to meet his other friend and his girlfiend to go ice skating! While we almost got taken out by a few children (and adults) it was still a blast and I loved hanging out with his friends.

  • Dec. 23rd

In the morning we woke up to him getting a uni offer! It was the first one so it was really exciting! After that we got ready to go and meet his dad’s side of the family at his grandparents house. I met his cousins, grandparents, and aunt and uncle who were all so nice.  I was nervous at first, but they made me feel welcome immediatly. Afterwards, Ewan and I walked over to Primrose hill which has this really pretty view of London. The lights were all on down the hill and I just remember being so content just holding his hand. On the way back we got caught in the rain and ended up speed walking back to a train station, still laughing of course. Later that night we watched my favorite Christmas movie with his family,  How the Grinch Stole Christmas!

  • Dec. 24th

During the day we just hung out, but later that night we went to dinner with some of his family friends! They were all really nice too and the food was really good. Even though I was sick, I had a great time (especially since the waiter was really nice and brought me some mint tea).  I couldn’t stop coughing so we went back home to rest and I got a Christmas burrito (A.K.A. wrapped in blankets) which is one of my favorite thing, especially when mixed with cuddles. Honestly I was a coughing mess for a lot of the days but I didn’t even mind because he was there taking care of me and getting water approx. every 15 seconds.

  • Dec. 25th

I woke up to E’s grandma telling me that it was Christmas! We grabbed the pillowcases/ stockings from in front of the bedroom doors that were filled with presents (it was a different tradition I got to experience!) and headed down to the kitchen with the rest of the family. We spent the rest of the morning opening presents (which his family spoiled me wayyyy too much and I’m so thankful for everything). I brought over a few different foods and it was fun to see everyone try them. The salt water taffy was specifically a hit which was cool because it is made right in Salt Lake! Although my favorite part was giving Ewan his gift (a wooden watch with the day we started dating engraved on the back) and my favorite gift was obviously the earrings he got me (they’re super cute and heart shaped and yeah I haven’t really taken them off tbh).

Later in the afternoon I got to skype my family and saw my brother get the crested gecko he wanted really bad. It’s name is Mushu and he’s so cute! After his dad’s parents came over and I got to experience my first English Christmas dinner! It was really good but it was SO much food ( even though Ewan ate like half of mine).

20190119_205738

I missed my family a little bit, but overall it’s one of the best Christmases I’ve ever had! His family was amazing and I had so much fun meeting everyone and just being able to spend time with him. We did a lot of other things in the next two weeks that I can’t wait to write about next.

Blogger Secret Santa

Hey y’all! This is a scheduled post, but it is scheduled for CHRISTMAS! So Merry Christmas!  Also, this whole thing was Teenella’s idea, so go check out her blog!

And without further adieu, the blogger I had was Courtney from LoveCourtneyx!

Dear Courtney,

Since I have a WordPress blog, I’m very rarely exposed to any blogs on blogspot, so when I got the link to your blog I was curious to see one! After stalking your blog for a few days I really liked all of your blogmas posts. Especially the nail art one (because I can’t do anything like that, and was very impressed). I also agreed with your taste in movies! But then I wanted to know more about you so I went all the way back to your first post. And that’s where I found most of what we have in common!  I was also giggling at all the times you’ve gotten hurt (not masochistically, I swear xD) but I am also very accident prone.

Although I have to say that the one thing that made me gasp and literally want to text my friends about right away, was the fact that you’ve broken a phone in a car door. Whenever I tell people that I did it, they also ask me how it’s even possible. And now I know I’m not alone!  So i.f someone ever asks you that question, I got your back. Although I am curious as to how it happened to you… (I  had my phone in my jacket pocket which was tied around my waist, and it got caught in the door which I had slammed shut).

Another thing that we have in common is The Vamps. I’m not usually a big boy band kind of person, but when my friend exposed me to their music in 7th grade I really liked them! So when they came to concert with Austin Mahone and Shawn Mendes, back when they were little and not super popular (over here at least) we went to go see them in concert! They were really good, we still listen to their CD in the car. What are some of your favorite songs? I’ve always loved Jack for some reason.

But enough about things we have in common, and more about you! When I saw that you lived in Scotland I thought it was so cool! I live in plain, boring (not really but still) old America, and Scotland seems so different! Also good luck with your classes and exams (I sound like a creep talking about you when I haven’t talked to you xD) I hope they’re not too stressful (who am I kidding its school)

The other thing that I noticed is that you haven’t been blogging for too long. I really like your posts, and I hope you continue to write. I think you could grow your blog into something really neat! If this is something you enjoy right now, you’ll grow to love it. Even if it is stressful sometimes. I look forward to reading your next post!

Merry Christmas! Love, Aspen  AKA The Author

Blogmas 2016! – Day 23

Hey y’all! So today I’m going to be writing about what I’ve been doing with my winter break so far!

The first day of break (technically) was Wednesday, we only had a half day. So Ryann, Emily, Lauren, and I came back to my house to make lunch and open presents! We watched some movies, drank hot chocolate, and just had tons of fun!

I got some bubbles from our Spanish classes’ White Elephant gift exchange, so we played with those outside.

I love getting gifts from people, not because of the gift, but because I can see how much they know and love me. And I love to get them gifts, because I love making them happy!

This next picture is the watch I got Emily

wp-1482456707231.jpg

Then I got Ryann a Sherlock Holmes scented candle, which turned out to smell AMAZING. And I also got her a snow windshield cover for her car, so she doesn’t have to scrape it off every morning.

wp-1482456707428.jpg

Then Ryann got me a super soft blanket with football plays and footballs on it and it has barely left my side since then. She also got me this really cool kit thing that came with an actual oyster that I got to rip open to find a its guts (well and a pearl) but the guts were pretty cool. The pearl was white which stands for wisdom, and like I didn’t even have to say it, even nature knows how smart I am.

Then Lauren actually made me something- it’s one of those string art things, in the shape of the leaf on a Quaking Aspen tree. But get this- she drove like downtown to find the wood from an Aspen tree.

wp-1482456707242.jpg

Then on Thursday, the only thing that I really did was go to the temple for baptisms of the dead! If you want to know what that is, just leave a comment below and I’ll happily explain 🙂  I had a lot of fun, and it was really nice to feel the spirit in that way before Christmas.

wp-1482560518148.jpg

And then today was my Uncle Richie’s birthday so we threw a party for him at ze church. But my cousins got a new puppy for Christmas named Thor and he’s the cutest thing ever. I also got to see the baby again finally, and she has grown up so much. She LOVES to jabber on and on (wonder where she got that from…) When I carried her to the car as per usual she was screaming and sobbing because she wanted “Momma to take her home” aka me, not her actual mother. She kept telling me I was going the wrong way because she knows what our car looks like, and needless to say my heart is broken, and I want to see my baby asap.

Blogmas 2016! – Day 22

Hey y’all! Can you believe it? Christmas is right around the corner! Today’s blogmas post is showing y’all some of my past Christmases through pictures!

P.S. I forgot to link my Christmas Photo Diary that I posted on The Artistics earlier, so here it is! Be sure to check it out, I put a ton of work into it and really like how it turned out.

wp-1482462228318.jpg

This is a picture of my first Christmas, and I can tell that its super old because not only is it in my old house, but the carpet is still silver blue. Now all I want for Christmas is to sleep like I did back then.

I’m not positive, but I’m going to assume this is the year after. These pictures were actually taken at my grandma’s house, and that’s my mom holding me. Aw, we were so cute.

wp-1482457551760.jpg

From here on, I have no idea what year the picture is from xD This one was also taken at my grandma’s old house when I was still the only grandchild (oh, the good old days…) My mom is holding me while I’m sitting on my aunt Julie’s shoulders. And then my uncles are around us (and yes, they still act like that).

wp-1482461560715.jpg

This is one of my favorite pictures, because first off my dad looked older then than he does now (and pretty creepy actually), and because he has socks on his ears. He’s a dork.

This Christmas was great because I got a trampoline. And it was also my first Christmas with my brother, back when I wanted him around if you can’t tell by the way I’m holding him.

wp-1482461560481.jpg

So this picture was taken up at my uncles ex-wife’s parents cabin. My parents obviously decided to take me sledding (I think I was about 3 or 4) and I clearly did not like it. From what I’ve heard I was just crying the whole time because I was freezing.

wp-1482461560445.jpg

This picture is me with my new beach set and my uncle Richie posing so… well that’s just him in a picture. It’s actually his birthday tomorrow so we’re throwing him a surprise party! When I was younger we were best buds. And he’s actually still my favorite, shh…

christmas-11

For Christmas in 2011 we (My family, Amy, David, and Summit) drove to Wisconsin so our parents could watch a Bears vs. Packers game- and us kids went to the world’s largest indoor water park- The Kalahari. On the drive home we stopped in Chicago and got a tour of Soldier Field (Go Bears!) This was by far one of the best Christmases ever, I’ll have to try and find the picture of us with the tiger cub at some point…

bg

This was Christmas of 2013, and also our first Christmas in our new house! It was really cool to make new traditions and have new experiences 🙂

bc

This picture was taken at my grandma’s new house in 2014 (I can tell because the baby is crawling, and that would make her 8 months old at the time) This is how we spend Christmas Eve at my grandma’s house, in a big circle with kids on laps and wrapping paper everywhere. Just the way I like it.

bd

This is the last Christmas I have a picture for, and was also 2014 actually. I remember that Spencer was psyched to get a phone, but that was also the year I got my cowboy boots, so I was more excited for them xD

This year is going to be weird- we’re not going to be with my mom’s family on Christmas Eve since we’re doing the birthday party for my uncle tomorrow. And we usually have my dad’s family over on Christmas but they’re not coming over til the day after. So our 2 main days are basically free!

I hope y’all liked this! Comment one of your favorite Christmases below! – Aspen AKA The Author

Seeing the Utah Symphony!

Heyes y’all. So today instead of a “blogmas” post I’m just going to kind of talk about what I’ve been doing lately.

Today I went with Bex to see the Utah Symphony play some Christmas songs. I had a lot of fun, they’re obviously really good. They played a Suite from the Polar Express and it was beautiful. Those songs are what Christmas sounds and feels like. They also played Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, which my orchestra played in our winter concert so that was pretty cool. Here are some pictures of where they play, Abravanel Hall.

After the concert we want back to her house to watch national Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation and laughed super hard. If you haven’t seen that movie you need to, it’s hilarious.

But speaking of my orchestra Winter Concert, it was Wednesday night but I was so sick that I didn’t even hear what we were playing. Thankfully before the concert Lauren took me to go get ice cream, made me pasta, and then we took a nap before going so I could somewhat function.

And I’m feeling better now, but my throat is still really sore.

I have 3 more days of school til Christmas break, and lots of hw to do tomorrow that’s due Monday and Tuesday, wish me luck xD

Blogmas 2016! – Day 15

Hey y’all! I’m back with another blogmas post, and today’s theme was Jesus Worshipped through Song and So Can You.

So I decided to make a  Christmas playlist full of songs by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. They sound amazing, it’s a all volunteer choir and they’ve won both Emmy and Grammy awards and done concerts around the world! These are just a few of my favorites:

  1. The Wexford Carol. This video is about a father who has had some type of fight with his own brother and how he learns the lessons he’s been been teaching his own sons.
  2. What Shall We Give? I think this one was my favorite. This one is about a father and his two sons (again) who all do something kind for someone around them.
  3. Infant Holy, Infant Lowly I really liked this video since it was a bit different. It showed a man during his last day in Prison which just happened to be Christmas, and him meeting his family again.
  4. Hallelujah Chorus . If you haven’t heard their version of this song, then click it NOW. DO IT.
  5. What Child Is This? This one is a classic Christmas song you’ve most likely heard, but it’s still one of my favorites. And when I listen to this version I literally can’t do anything else but just listen.
  6. Angels We Have Heard on High  Again another classic that sounds amazing with a cute video.

I hope y’all liked this! I’m hoping to have my post about the Trans-Siberian Orchestra concert up by this weekend!

Blogmas 2016! – December 9th

Hey y’all! It’s currently 10:41 pm after a pretty long day, and I’m trying to not fall asleep as I write this xD

Today’s theme was, Jesus Visited the Lonely and So Can You.

So for today I did 2 small things.

First, I babysat some kids who live up the street. They’ve been begging for me to come over. We watched the Angry Birds movie and then played Tickle Monster- a game I made up with them and other stuff like Hide and Seek.

I had a little of fun, and it was super cute to see their faces light up when I was playing with them 🙂

And secondly, I just sent a few texts to some friends that I haven’t talked to awhile just asking them how they’ve been.

Happy Blogmas day #9, only 16 days till Christmas!

Blogmas 2016! – December 8th

Hey y’all! I’m sorry for not doing a post yesterday, I honestly forgot and I had homework to do after my chiropractor appointment. But I’m back for today!

Today’s theme is Jesus Prayed for Others and So Can You

As simple as it sounds, prayer has immense power. It’s direct communication with God that brings answers and comforts, even if it’s not immediate. God knows what’s best for us and won’t always give us what we want, but he will give us what we need. Often in ways we don’t realize or wouldn’t expect.

So for today I wanted to try and take my prayers to a deeper level. I always pray to have a good day, and bless the sick, and to help my friends (you guys included) and family. And I thank Him for my home, and food, pets, and family.

Tonight I’m going to be more earnest. Be thankful for more things, pray for more people. I’ve been thinking about what to ask for that would help the most. I’m going to pray for asking opportunity to serve, and to be better able to help people I know. And for you guys, I know so many people who struggle and I want you to know that I care.

I hope that even if you don’t pray your able to recognize the things your grateful for and to want to help others 🙂

Blogmas 2016! – December 6th

Hey y’all! Today didn’t start out so well. My back hurt really bad so I skipped 5th period and just went to school late. Other than that today’s been pretty good. Ryann came over after school and we just laughed and watched some TV.

Today’s theme is…  Jesus Read the Scriptures and So Can You

I read a few chapters in 2nd Nephi (In the Book of Mormon) yesterday, but as today went on I kept reminding myself that I needed to read today. ….. For the post. Which  thinking back on it is horrible, I love reading my scriptures, but the main reason I wanted to do it today and not just push it off til tomorrow was so I could post about it. And as bad as that makes me feel, I’m really glad that I decided to do the 25 day challenge so that I would do these things every day.

But, I still had to write the post, and it’s getting late. So I did one of my favorite things, opened my gospel library app and decided to listen to them instead, like what I’m doing right now.

As I mentioned before, I’m reading in 2nd Nephi, which is talking about the 2nd coming. It keeps talking about the consequences of following either Satan or God. And it keeps listing all of these blessing that come with following God.  One of my favorites so far is in Chapter 9 verse 45, “O, my beloved brethren, turn away from your sins; shake off the chains of him that would bind you fast; come unto that God who is the rock of your salvation”.

And it made me think of a movie I was watching about a half hour ago, McFarland, USA. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a really poor school in California with kids who work in the fields just to put food on the table for their families, that start a cross country team. I won’t spoil the movie, but all of the characters are portrayed as extremely hard working. And all they have to deal with is hardship after hardship, and ones that most of us will never even have to think about.

As I watched, the word unfair began to run through my mind. People don’t choose their situations, why don’t they get what I have? Why do good people have to go through such horrible things?

Which is a question that I’m sure we’ve all heard before, and even though I knew the answer, it seems I needed a reminder. Good people go through hard things. And bad people get away with bad things and get rewarded when they should be punished. But the creator of the Earth is fair, and our creation is fair. These good people that suffer will be rewarded, maybe not in this life, but in another. Those you did bad will pay for what they did. There will be fairness.

Matthew 5 goes through many situations, these are just a few:

Verse 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven”

Verse 6 “Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled”

Verse 8 “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God

(My favorite) Verse 10 & 11 “Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake.”

I hope you guys liked this post, it gave me a good peace of mind after a hard day. Love y’all! -Aspen AKA The Author

Blogmas 2016! – December 5th

Hey y’all! It’s day 5 of blogmas, and the theme is Jesus Healed the Sick and So Can You.

So today I prayed for everyone I knew who was suffering from a sickness whether it was physical or mental.

I took the time to assess their specific situations and pray for God to comfort them in their time of need.

I also signed up to be an organ donor yesterday. Not all of my organs can be donated, but some of them can. And I figured why wouldn’t I save someone else if I had the chance?

Sorry this was so short, I’m writing another post that should be going up either tonight or tomorrow.

I hope you guys had a good day. Love y’all – Aspen AKA the Author
